Minor units

The number of decimal places a currency uses. JPY has 0, USD has 2, KWD has 3.

Definition

The minor unit is the fractional subdivision of a currency. Assuming two everywhere is a common and expensive bug: a zero-decimal currency treated as two-decimal is charged 100× too much. The authoritative source is ISO 4217, closely tracked by ICU/CLDR.
